There are many species of aphids with each species attacking more than one species of plant, e.g. the peach-potato aphid feeds off peach leaves in the spring and then moves on to a variety of herbaceous plants, including the potato. Aphid populations can be controlled biologically by introducing an aphid predator such as a ladybird. They can also be chemically controlled by using an insecticide or pesticide.
